Business and Government Experience
Ann has been an entrepreneur and business owner since 1991 when she co-founded Williams & Vanino, Inc. helping Fortune 500
corporations and government agencies comply with government regulations and manage their environmental programs effectively.
Ann's prior career includes management positions at the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, DC and New York City's
Department of Environmental Protection. As Assistant Commissioner of New York City's Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Team,
she oversaw responses to over 600 chemical emergencies a year. The Team was a national leader in emergency response in the 1980s, during her tenure.
Workforce Development Experience
In 2008, Ann co-founded The High Desert Region Green Jobs Initiative and served as its Strategic Consultant until May 2010. The Initiative linked economic and workforce development to advance the green economy in northern Los Angeles and San Bernandino counties and eastern Kern County.
The initiative was achieved through public/private partnerships and guided by a collaboration of the private sector, government, community-based organizations addressing career development and job training, labor, educational institutions, youth, and under and unemployed adults.
From 2005-2007 Ann was involved in a major Foundation Initiative to develop career pathways for out of school youth.
Her work centered on creating profiles of stakeholders and win-win scenarios for their collaboration, participating in the
implementation of the Initiative and working closely with a Community Based Organization that provides innovative
GED/workforce preparation programs for juvenile offenders.
Writing
Ann is the
author of a book, Leadership on Trial: Lessons from The Apprentice, a booklet
Achieving Balance in Your Life and two
eBooks: Power Stories and Coaching
Corner Volume 1. Ann writes The Manager's Hub
Blog and a bimonthly eZine, Power at Work. From 2000-2005, Ann wrote a local, weekly newspaper column,
Coaching Corner that guide readers to a fulfilling life, that is currently in its second printing by the newspaper.
Community Activities
Ann is a member of the Business Advisory Council of the South Valley Work
Source Center whose mission is to enhance the economic vitality of the Antelope
Valley by providing quality career resources and employment services to job
seekers and businesses. Ann provides a quarterly workshop for job seekers at
the Center titled, Empowerment In This Day and Time.
Ann currently volunteers time to the Antelope Valley Youth Build Charter School
and is involved in establishing a workforce preparedness training program for
youth in Boron, CA.
Ann was a member of the Board of Directors of The Antelope Valley Chambers of
Commerce from 2004-2010. From 2003-2006, she chaired the Chamber's Business
Education and Services Committee.
Ann was a member of the Founding Executive Board of The Antelope Valley WomenÕs
Conference in 2006. She served on the Founding Board of Directors of the Los
Angeles Chapter of The International Coach Federation in 2002.
Education
Ann received her training as a coach at The Coaches Training Institute in
San Rafael, CA. She received a Master's Degree in Public Administration from
New York University and a Bachelor of Arts Degree, magna cum laude, in
Environmental Studies from the State University of New York at Albany.
